Math Centers or Explore and Apply Stations

Math Uno Center - There are so many things you can do with Uno cards. Simply remove the skip, reverse, draw 4s and 2s and use those colorful number cards for lots of options like sorting numbers, ordering the numbers, bigger or smaller, or play games like Top it.

Skip Counting Lego Center

Dot Circling - Cover a big piece of butcher paper with dots from those dot stampers. Then in the center have students circle groups of dots. They could circle 4s, or even numbers, or tens. The ideas are endless and you could even have the students put the dots on the page in another center at a different time. Here's another, smaller reusable version of this activity.

Great examples of play based/center based learning in this reel.

ELA Centers and Stations

These could be things like:

  • Game Station: These can be a staple of games that expand over the course of the year with activities like matching games, Zingo or sound bingo, Spin and Read, Sound Sorts, etc.
  • Sound Wall or Mirror Station: Students practice making sounds while comparing their mouth position to visuals.
  • Write the Room: Similar to Sound Detectives, in this station, students find words around the room that connect with the skill or lesson of the day like words with short o in them.
  • Build-a-Book: Students can make books with words or pictures that match the sound or skill of the day. Imagine a mini book of m words, or cvc words, or adverbs. Another option in this station is to draw the pictures and label them. Labels or pictures could be provided.
  • Sort Station: In this station, there is a rotating set of cards and sorts. Students sort words with long or short i for example.
